5 Must-Haves for your Dorm Room Bed

It may only be mid-July, but it's back-to-school season on our shop floor! While you can postpone thinking about homework, it's time to think about the essential components that will outfit your bedroom for the next four years.

While your bed at home may just be a bed, your dorm bed will need to do double or even triple-duty, functioning as an all-purpose study zone, library, desk, and sleeping quarters. Make sure your dorm bed is primed for all of these activities with our handy list below.

Here are the essentials for a great dorm bed:

1. New Pillow & Duvet

Without a doubt, the most important thing you can do for a good night's sleep (which is tantamount to good grades) is to have the right pillow and duvet. A great pillow will give you much needed neck and back support, and the right duvet will keep you warm and cozy throughout the year.

Our recommendation? Our Jasper Pillow & Duvet. Made from a premium German micro-fibre, they can easily be tossed in the washing machine should any unfortunate spills occur.

2. Twin XL Sheets

Most beds in university dorm rooms are a Twin XL size, a full 5" longer than a standard Twin bed. Skip the ill-fitting sheets from big-box stores and upgrade to the right size sheets that will last for your entire stay.

Our Twin XL dorm room bestsellers include our signature 220 Thread Count Percale sheets (which can also be jazzed up with your choice of embroidery stitch), our Thomas grid pattern, and classic striped Timothy set.

3. A Mattress Protector

We consider this an absolute ESSENTIAL. A mattress protector puts an extra layer between you and your mattress, protecting you from dirt and dust mites (and the person who slept on the mattress before you!). Our Cotton Mattress Protector is available in a Twin XL, and has a snug base designed to fit any mattress.

4. A Featherbed

Is your dorm bed mattress lumpy and uncomfortable to sleep on? Outfitting it with a White Goose Featherbed will make you feel like you're sleeping on a cloud. With a feather-filled base for premium support and a soft topping layer of duck down, it doesn't get more comfy than this.

5. A Euro Pillow (or Two)

What may just look like a decorative accent piece is actually so much more. If your bed is lacking a headboard, a Euro Pillow can be propped up against the wall, providing essential back support for reading, studying in bed, or even just watching a movie. Bonus: it also acts as the perfect cover to hide wrinkled pillowcases!

If you have a Twin bed, one Euro pillow will suffice. For a Double bed, try using two. To suit every style, we offer a range of Euro Shams in a variety of fabrics, colours, and textures, like our Rustic one above.
