A History of Houndstooth

What is houndstooth? Most traditionally seen in the world of fashion (and menswear suiting in particular), houndstooth refers to a textile pattern comprised of broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes. Houndstooth originated in Scotland in the 1800s, and its canine-inspired title holds true to its roots -  the broken check shape is influenced by the uneven outline of a hound dog's tooth.

We've put our own spin on this classic fall favourite with our Lavato Houndstooth collection (available in Grey and Taupe). We've dusted off this traditional wool pattern and given it a modern update, enlarging the scale of the checks and giving them a soft, muted colour makeover. Equally popular with both sexes, we think this classic-with-a-twist collection is the perfect texture to update your bedroom with this fall.
