Q: What is Cashmere?
A: Cashmere is a type of wool derived from the soft, downy undercoat of a Cashmere goat. They are usually combed to obtain the luxurious underfibres. Because of the tedious and costly nature of this process, cashmere wool is highly sought-after. Cashmere is a natural fibre that has been used in textiles for thousands of years.
Cashmere is fine in texture, strong, light, and soft. It's especially wonderful for the home because it adds beautiful texture and warmth. You'll see it used in throws, blankets, and decorative pillows to add a touch of lavishness.
Always remember to be careful when washing your cashmere. One trip in the dryer and you'll see what we mean! Cashmere knits should be hand washed using a mild shampoo in cold water, and laid flat to dry. Bleaches of any kind cannot be used as both oxygen and chlorine bleaches will damage the fibers. Taking good care of your cashmere will allow you to enjoy this extravagant material for years to come.
